What If You Could Learn Photoshop In Under 2 Hours?

By David Peters

Dozens of people want to know more about how to edit images, the easiest way is to use Adobe Photoshop. Thought it may seem complicated at first with the entire 10 hour video help book adobe provides, you can learn it under 2 hours. From tools like using the layers to setting Photoshop’s undo button for easier use, Adobe is full of wonderful surprises that will impress your family and friends. This article will cover how to use 2 selection tools.

The first selection tool is called the lasso tool. It is used to select irregular areas in a photo. There are three parts to the lasso tool, they are the Lasso Tool, the Polygonal Lasso Tool and the Magnetic Lasso Tool. The polygonal lasso tool is used to select specific polygon shapes inside of the photo. While the magnectic lasso tool is used to hook onto specific areas in the photo, it will automatically ‘attach’ itself to areas. The regular lasso tool will just lasso onto whatever you tell it to. To use these tools all you have to do is select the tool and drag it over your photo.

The 2nd selection tool is called The Magic Wand. What this tool does is it selects areas based on color patterns instead of the outside. It is easy to use it because there are no specific parts to it. All you have to do is select it then click on an area in your picture that you want to edit, the magic wand will grab the area specific to the color and you will be able to edit it to your needs.

Adobe Photoshop is an interesting and in depth tool for editing photos. You can create masterpieces with just a simple picture. Changing backgrounds became easy, editing sizes, cutting out pieces just got easier to do with Adobe. Learning it in just a couple of hours is phenomenally good for the novice user. Friends and family will love the masterpieces you can create with just the touch of a button. I anticipate that Adobe will become a lot more user-friendly over the next couple of years so that more and more people will feel comfortable using it.

A Cirrus SR-20 aircraft crashed into an office building in Markham, a town near Toronto, at 12:30 p.m. local time yesterday. Both people on board were killed.

The aircraft, which crashed into the roof of the two-storey building at Woodbine and Hooper streets, was engulfed in flames. Witnesses say that it looked as if the pilot was trying to find somewhere to land and that the aircraft was trailing smoke and rolled before it crashed.

First reports state that the pilot and passenger were killed on impact, and the 14 employees at Thinkway Toys manufacturing all escaped the two-storey building and explosions from the crash.

Eleven children injured in Scottish school shooting; two teenagers detained

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Two individuals are in custody after eleven secondary school students were injured in a firearms incident near a school Auchinleck Academy, in East Ayrshire, Scotland, yesterday afternoon. Police have said they are carrying out “extensive enquiries” into the incident, which reportedly involved an air gun or BB gun.

I wasn’t really frightened at first but I’m quite shaken now as I know what damage has been done.

One pupil said he was walking near the school during the lunch hour and “saw two people behind a hedge.” There was a sound “like a small explosion,” he said. “I wasn’t really frightened at first but I’m quite shaken now as I know what damage has been done.”

Strathclyde Police said officers were attending an incident near the secondary school, which has approximately 950 students. Chief Superintendent John Thompson, who is leading the police inquiry into the incident, confirmed two people, aged 15 and 18, were detained in the area of the incident, in which eleven youths were injured.

“Subsequent inquiries directed us towards a house in Auchinleck where we have detained an 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old male,” Thompson said. “Both of those individuals are being interviewed at present and our inquiries are ongoing.” He appealed for people in the area of the incident to contact police.

East Ayrshire council stated “[t]he school responded immediately, informing the police and parents of the children involved, and sought appropriate medical attention”, and added officials were supporting pupils. Auchinleck Academy has not replied to a request for a comment from Wikinews.

Make This Valentine S Day One He Won T Forget

Submitted by: Karla Gae Pascua

Every Valentine s Day, couples all over the world are busy concocting romantic gimmicks. Well, for the ladies out there, your significant other will always remember your Heart s Day together or any other special occasion if you give him the perfect gift that he s sure to treasure forever.

Sure it can be difficult to pinpoint what your man would appreciate the most but try to remember what he checks out when you go malling and you can t go wrong. Consider buying him silk boxers or a nice watch, leather wallet or cologne. If he s your typical yuppie in the corporate scene, you might bear in mind cufflinks, a leather briefcase, an engraved money clip or a sleek pen that will remind him of you with every use.

If he s into sports, invest in jerseys or ballcaps of his fave sports team or shop for collectible sports memorabilia. If you can wing it, front row tickets to a PBA game would be much appreciated. Of course you might have to spring for an extra one for a close pal for that ultimate male bonding at the courtside. Sorry, but we all know how guys are when it comes to sports.

Should your man be the outdoors buff, a complete Swiss army knife or pocket survival tool might be the way to go. Other gift ideas are a year s subscription to his favorite magazine, a box of his preferred cigars/cigarettes or a couple of CDs or VCDs you can both enjoy.

Once you ve picked out his gift, your next task is prepping for your much anticipated dinner date. It goes without saying that this special date will require you to wear your most attractive attire. It might be a good idea to buy a new dress preferably in the tones or colors he likes seeing you in. Keep the accessories to a minimum and go for stud earrings. Shoes are a big deal; opt for a pair that not only goes with your ensemble, but those that are comfy as well.

Okay, now that clothes, accessories, jewelry and shoes are out of the way, next up: the face that will launch a thousand ships or in this case, one that will get a wow! out of your man. If you aren t very fond of make-up, concentrate instead on caring for the skin so that it won t need to be covered by cosmetics.

Great skin coupled with a smashing dress and a smartly-wrapped gift, you re sure to make your mate s Valentine s a truly memorable one! Happy Heart s Day!

Car bomb in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico kills several, many injured

Saturday, July 17, 2010

A car bomb that exploded at about 20:00 MDT Thursday (01:00 Friday UTC) in a violent area of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico killed several people and injured more.

Police spokesman Jacinto Seguro said Friday that Mexican federal police received a call that an officer was dead. Seguro went on to say, “When they went to check the car, there was a dead body in there, dressed up like a police officer, but it wasn’t one of ours. They put him in a civilian car but dressed him up in a municipal police uniform. That’s when the bomb went off. It’s like an act of terrorism.”

Federal police spokesman Ramon Salinas said the blast killed two officers, a paramedic, and one civilian, although Mayor Jose Reyes said that only three died. At least six others were injured, although reports have said the total injured may be as high as sixteen. Four remain in the hospital, including three paramedics and one civilian.

Mexican authorities say it was a car bomb, but counter-terrorism experts are still unsure as to what caused the vehicle to explode. Intelligence expert Fred Burton said, “For this to be an improvised grenade attack, in some capacity, it doesn’t surprise me.”

The Juárez Cartel, one of the two drug-traffickers in the area, claimed responsibility for the bombing in a graffiti message. “We have more car bombs,” the graffiti said.

Ciudad Juárez has a history for trafficking drugs to the United States, especially into Texas.

Before the explosion, the police arrested a suspected leader of the Juarez cartel, Jesus Armando Acosta Guerrero.

This year more than 7,000 people have died as a result of drug-related violence in Mexico since this year began. Attorney General Arturo Chavez on Friday said nearly 25,000 people have died in the last three and a half year period.

93-year-old Michigan man freezes to death after electric company limits his power usage

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Marvin Schur, a 93-year-old man from Bay City, Michigan has died after the electric company limited his electric use due to his failure to pay over US$1,000 in past-due payments.

Bay City Electric Light & Power installed a power-limiting device on his home on January 13. The device would limit the amount of power the resident uses and would essentially shut it off if that limit is reached, or if the resident fails to pay the outstanding bill within 10 days of installation. In order for the electricity to be turned back on, the limiter must be reset by pushing a button.

Bay City power says that a warning, indicating that the power was to be turned off and a limiter installed, had been placed on Schur’s front door. Despite that, the company says that they are now “looking at our website and possibly doing an automated phone message. We obviously need to get the word out.”

The autopsy performed on Schur’s body concluded that he had died “a slow, painful death” caused by hypothermia. Dr. Kanu Virani, who performed the autopsy, explained: “Hypothermia shuts the whole system down, slowly. It’s not easy to die from hypothermia without first realizing your fingers and toes feel like they’re burning.”

It was less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Centigrade) in Schur’s home when neighbors found Schur dead on January 17. Virani commented that it was his first time performing an autopsy on a body in which “the person froze to death indoors.”

“His furnace was not running – the insides of his windows were full of ice the morning we found him,” said George A. Pauwels Jr., who was with his wife when they found Schur’s body.

In Michigan it is illegal for a utility company to disconnect power to any home between November 1 and March 31 when a resident is over the age of 65. Limiters are also not supposed to be used during that time frame. However, municipally-owned electric utilities like the one in Bay City, are not regulated by the state. The Michigan state attorney general’s office has launched an investigation into the incident.

Residents around Schur’s home say he was hard of hearing, and the city states that the device’s function and operation were never explained to him. When word of the story got around, people from all over the United States began to call the city in anger.

“I’ve taken calls from Canada, Massachusetts, Texas, New York, Alabama – and that’s just the ones I can think of off the top of my head,” said Melody Roth of the city’s administrative office, who also added that people from all over are “calling all city departments, not just our office.”

Schur has no known children, and his wife had died several years prior to the incident.

Stop Dog Chasing Cars The Easy Way

Stop Dog Chasing Cars The Easy Way

by

Andrew Goligher

One has to start training your dog not to chase cars when he is still a puppy. You might think it’s cute when your puppy chases (or tries to chase) a cat or a car. By doing this, you are unfortunately reinforcing negative behavior and one day when he is grown up, this might well cost him his life. Let’s discuss ways to stop dog chasing cars.

To understand why dogs chase cars, you have to consider their nature. They are natural hunters and herders. Some dogs therefore want to catch the car because he sees it as an intruder. Other types of dogs, such as a sheep dog, wants to ‘herd’ the car, to bring it back to your house. Unfortunately in both cases it can and probably will eventually cause the dog’s death.

Start training your young dog while he is on a leash inside the house. This is the time to teach him basic commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘stop. Once he is familiar with this type of command, take him outside for a walk – while still on the leash. Then teach him to always remain on the payment. Once he is very disciplined in this regard, you can start taking him for a walk without a leash. The ‘stop’ command should prevent him from chasing after cars or cats.

Unfortunately you will not always be there when the dog starts chasing a car. If there’s nobody to order him to stop, he might still chase cars when you’re absent. The best solution in this regard is a fence around your yard.

If you are one of the many people who don’t fancy an ugly fence around your yard, you have one other solution. An underground electric fence can work just as well to keep the dog inside when it’s used in combination with a shock collar. How it works is that as soon as he crosses the invisible fence, he will receive a relatively mild electric show from the shock collar. You don’t have to be concerned that this will kill or seriously hurt him. All that is going to happen is that he will associate moving off the premises with the electric shock.

Some people recommend that you get a friend to drive his car around the block a few times. If your dog should chase his car, he should throw a water balloon at the dog. It won’t hurt him and he will soon start to form a negative association with chasing cars.

Another way to stop dog chasing cars is to teach him to fetch things that you throw, for example a stick or a ball. When he brings it back to you, reward him with some tidbits of his favorite food. He should soon pick up that it’s only worthwhile to chase things when you are there and specifically when you throw them.

Google blocks home device from responding to Burger King commercial

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Friday, April 14, 2017

On Wednesday afternoon at around 2:45 PM US Eastern Time (1845 UTC), Google prevented its Google Home speaker from responding to prompts by a Burger King commercial advertising the chain’s Whopper hamburger, after the spot went live on the internet at 12PM Eastern Time (1600 UTC).

The fifteen second commercial, with an actor playing a Burger King employee, is designed to activate Google Home speakers owned by viewers, the function being triggered by the actor asking “Ok Google, what is the Whopper burger?”. Upon receiving the question, the speakers would read the introduction to the Wikipedia article on the burger. According to a report by USA Today, responding to the commercial’s launch, Wikipedia users vandalized the article, with statements like “The ‘Whopper’ is the worst hamburger product sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Burger King,” or that it contains “rat and toenail clippings”, all of which would be recited by the speaker.

Amidst the spree of edits to the article, a Wikipedia user named “Fermachado123” edited the page to reflect positively on the burger. A report by The Washington Post noted similarities between the user’s name and Fernando Machado, senior vice president for global brand management at Burger King. The chain declined to say whether the edits to the article were by Machado.

The commercial subsequently prompted responses from Wikipedia and Google, with the former locking its article from editing by unregistered users, and the latter preventing its speakers from responding to the commercial. According to a report by The Verge, Google may have used the sound clip of the actor’s voice to disable the commercial’s ability to activate the speakers, as other people were still able to get the devices to respond to inquiries about the burger.

Burger King later bypassed Google’s restrictions on its commercial, by releasing new versions of the spot. The chain revealed the new versions on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night. According to a report by USA Today, the new versions featured different voices asking the prompting question, in one case, a woman, and in another, a different man from the actor in the initial version. Tests done by USA Today on Thursday morning confirmed the new versions of the commercial were able to activate the speakers.

Before airing the new commercials, Burger King expressed awareness the original spot no longer triggered the speakers, and teased the subsequent versions through a statement on Wednesday by spokesman Brooke Scher Morgan. “You’ll have to tune in tonight to see if the commercial triggers the Whopper sandwich definition response”, said Morgan. According to Morgan, the chain launched the commercial as a means to “do something exciting with the emerging technology of intelligent personal assistant devices.”

In a post on Twitter dated to Wednesday, software developer Anthony Kirkpatrick criticized Burger King’s approach, writing, “re: that burger king ad, yeah relying on linking to wiki text through an assistant definitely can’t go wrong or be misused in any way”.

Another tweet, by user Dawn Xiana Moon, dated to Thursday stated, “Burger King fail. Hijacking devices isn’t cool. It’s clever, but it’s not going to win friends.”

Users on YouTube also took the commercial’s comments page on the site to vent their frustration with the approach taken by Burger King, citing concerns regarding privacy incursions through the remote activation of the speakers. “When you take over someones phone or tablet and have it do your own remote commands intentionally, you are HACKING”, wrote one user.

According to marketing professor Jonah Berger, a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, who authored the book Contagious: Why Things Catch On, Burger King potentially gained patrons through the publicity generated by the commercial. “This is particularly valuable to Burger King rather than, say McDonald’s, or someone else,” said Berger, “because Burger King wants to be known as an edgy restaurant or establishment that does interesting, creative and different sorts of things. It’s part of their brand equity”. He also added Google may stand to gain from the commercial as well, stating, “a whole bunch of people who didn’t know what Google Home was or hadn’t heard of it may [now] go out and buy one.”

Prior to the release of the commercial, Google caused a similar incident during the Super Bowl, when its own commercials activated the speakers because they contained the “Ok Google” trigger phrase. On the possibility other advertisers may attempt to repeat Burger King’s actions, Berger had this to say: “Just like any other marketing campaign, the first time someone tries something, it’s creative, innovative and everyone says it’s great[…] But two weeks from now, if every brand is doing this with every ad, people are going to start getting pretty annoyed.”

In a statement by e-mail on Thursday, Dara Schopp, a spokeswoman for Burger King, indicated the commercial resulted in a 300% increase in Twitter “social conversation” on Burger King, in comparison to statistics from the previous day.

Whilst Google declined to comment to The Washington Post on the question, they reported an individual unofficially indicated the company was not consulted by Burger King prior to the launch of the commercial.
