South Korean president expresses willingness to supply COVID-19 vaccines to North Korea

Thursday, June 17, 2021

On Monday, during a state visit by the South Korean president to Austria, president Moon Jae-in said in a joint press conference with Austrian president Alexander Van der Bellen, “If North Korea agrees, [we] will push proactively for cooperation on [COVID-19] vaccine supplies for it”.

Austrian President Van der Bellen agreed with Moon, speaking about united efforts of all countries to end the pandemic. He further said, “In case of any signal from North Korea [for requesting help], we will of course help.”

The status of COVID-19 in North Korea is unknown, as the regime still claims to have no case of the virus, a claim many foreign observers qualify as untrue. In an article by Daily NK, North Korean military authorities are reportedly “scrambling” to secure any doses of any vaccine to inoculate their military in a “military-first” effort, with multiple sources claiming up to 25% of the military has been placed in quarantine.

In the same article, Chinese medical supplies have reportedly been banned from use in Pyongyang hospitals after the death of an official who had received an injection of Chinese-made medicine. The exclusion of Chinese medicine may have also been applied to Chinese-made vaccines, such as the ones made by Sinovac and Sinopharm, furthered the article.

The visit was the first of its kind, as president Moon is the first South Korean president to make a state visit to Austria since the countries first opened diplomatic relations in 1892. Relations between the two countries will mark their 130th anniversary next year.

3 Effective Hemorrhoids Remedies

3 Effective Hemorrhoids Remedies

by

Robbi Friedrick

When you are experiencing hemorrhoids, finding a treatment becomes a top priority. While uncomfortable and painful, it is not usually very serious. In some cases you must seek medical attention for hemorrhoids, but often you can find relief through home remedies. We will discuss some of these hemorrhoid treatment options below.

If you find that over the counter hemorrhoid medications haven\’t been effective, or don\’t work quickly enough, you may want to see your doctor for a stronger prescription. Your doctor can prescribe hemorrhoid medication that can be extremely effective and fast acting. We all realize that some have no problem making an appointment while others couldn\’t be threatened into making one – so obviously it\’s your call and decision. You must take seriously any situation in which you have very severe debilitating pain or anal bleeding. But if you\’re not at that point, first be grateful, and then you may want to try an alternative treatment approach or an OTC product.

Pursuing alternative strategies, it is well know that different herbs have had success with this condition. What you\’ll find with these other herbs is a combination of oral and topical ingestion modes. Aloe Vera is a tremendously useful plant with many properties, and one thing it\’s very well known for is taking the fire out of skin burns for certain types of burns; it\’s also very effective for highly irritated hemorrhoidal areas.

You should investigate on your own and decide; two more different topical applications are Witch Hazel and Saint John\’s Wort oil. The best approach is to do your research and proceed according to your feelings about using them. It\’s completely your decision, of course, but they\’re not hard to find so that won\’t be a problem.

In rare cases, natural or over the counter hemorrhoids treatments are not sufficient to treat the condition. If, for example, you have extreme pain, a great deal of bleeding, or longstanding hemorrhoids that have not responded to ordinary treatments, your doctor may recommend surgery to remove the hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoidectomies are done for this reason, but one good thing about them is they do not require a hospital stay – yay! But that\’s only suggested when you\’ve tried everything else and to no avail. For the majority of cases, hemorrhoids can be successfully treated with natural remedies or medication.

There is quite an array of methods to fight hemorrhoids, and they are traditional medicine with prescriptions, alternative approaches of several kinds, and finally surgery for the most stubborn cases. When you begin treating your hemorrhoids, you may want to think about progressing from the mildest and easiest types of treatment to the more involved methods. As you begin the road to comfort and health, it\’s important to assess your habits and lifestyle to try to prevent and manage future issues.

These tips may help you with your hemorrhoids, having said that if you really want to receive the best results a well-known plan to eliminate hemorrhoids is very recommended.

UK woman convicted of ‘mercy’ murder of son

Thursday, January 21, 2010

A woman has been convicted of murder after killing her son in an “act of mercy”. The Old Bailey, a London court, heard that Frances Inglis, 57, injected Tom, 22, with heroin and gave her a life sentence.

Tom had been injured in a street fight in July 2007 and was put in an ambulance depite his desire not to be hospitalised. The ambulance door was opened three times; the third time Tom jumped out and sustained injuries that left him in a coma. He became mute and dependant on 24-hour care. His only method of communication was to squeeze a hand.

Frances was told that if she wanted Tom to die legally then she could ask the High Court to allow his food and water to be withdrawn, so that he would starve to death. Frances told the court “I know Tom – no way would he have wanted to live totally dependent. I can remember saying I felt I would rather he go to heaven than to hell on earth. I know Tom would not want to live. He had lost his life.”

“I couldn’t bear the thought of Tom dying of thirst or hunger,” she said of the idea of food and water withdrawal. “To me that would be so cruel, so cruel. To die slowly like that would be horrible.” Instead she used the Internet to research Tom’s condition and concluded that a heroin overdose would be the most painless method available. A learning disabilities worker with no convictions, she concluded two grams was sufficient to kill and began spending time in areas she believed drugs were on sale – outside the local station, job centre and needle exchanges.

Frances was determined to release Tom from his “living hell” and said she had “no choice” in the matter. “I asked myself what I would want,” she said. “I would want someone to love me enough to help me die. That’s why I thought heroin – a painless, peaceful death.” She obtained her two grams and stole syringes from Tom’s hospital before injecting him, but he was revived by nurses and she was charged with attempted murder. She was bailed but barred from contacting her son.

Fourteen months later she obtained access to Tom by posing as his aunt and placed superglue in the lock of his door, further barricading it with an oxygen cylinder and a wheelchair. It took staff thirty minutes to break in, by which time Frances had injected one of Tom’s arms and both his thighs with heroin. This time he died.

Frances had left a letter to her family in which she talked of her concerns for her other two sons and dog, as well as the running of the house, expecting a murder arrest. On one bed she left a photograph of Tom as well as a prayer written by his girlfriend. Police also found older letter by Frances, one of which read “People keep saying Tom is not suffering. How can they know how he feels?”

She was asked if guilty of murder and attempted murder, to which she responded “I don’t see it as killing or murder. The definition of murder is to take someone’s life with malice in your heart. I did it with love in my heart, for Tom, so I don’t see it as murder. I knew what I was doing was against the law. I don’t know what name they would call it but I knew that the law would say it was wrong. I believed it would have been Tom’s choice to have been allowed to die rather than have the intervention to keep him alive.”

The jury “could not have had a more difficult case,” according to Judge Brian Barker, but he told them nobody was allowed to override the law. Ten members of the jury agreed, but two sided with Frances, leaving a conviction by majority verdict. The jury foreman was greeted by cries of “shame on you” from France’s relatives, for which they were ejected from the building. “We can all understand the emotion and the unhappiness that you were experiencing,” Barker told Frances, later adding “You knew you were breaking society’s conventions, you knew you were breaking the law, and you knew the consequences.” He ordered her to serve a minimum of nine years.

“What this case and a number of others have exposed,” said France’s eldest son, Alex, “is a need for a complete rethink of existing laws in regard to people that have been, and will be, in the same position as Tom. How can it be legal to withhold food and water, which means a slow and painful death, yet illegal to end all suffering in a quick, calm and loving way? It’s cruel, inhumane and illogical… We have a duty of care to them and we should not allow this situation to continue. It should not be left to a wife, husband, mother, father, sister or brother to have to end their suffering, and be convicted for murder.” Detective Chief Inspector Steve Collin, who was in charge of the case, flatly disagreed. “There’s no such thing as a mercy killing in law.”

“I want to say that all of the family and Tom’s girlfriend support my mum 100%. All those who loved and were close to Tom have never seen this as murder, but as a loving and courageous act,” said Alex.

Wikinews interviews U.S. Libertarian presidential candidate Wayne Allyn Root

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Wikinews held an exclusive interview with Wayne Allyn Root, one of the candidates for the Libertarian Party nomination for the 2008 U.S. presidential election.

Root is the founder and chairman of Winning Edge International Inc., a sports handicapping company based in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, he is an author and a television producer, as well as an on-screen personality both as host and guest on several talk shows.

Root, a long-time Republican, declared his candidacy for the Libertarian Party on May 4, 2007.

He says he is concerned about the qualities of many who run for president, and fears that they do not know the needs of American citizens. He also says that they cater to big businesses instead of small ones.

He has goals of limiting the federal government and believes that the US went into Iraq for wrong reasons. A strong supporter of the War on Terror, he feels that it was mishandled. He has conservative values and came from a blue collar family in New York. He graduated from Columbia University with fellow presidential hopeful Barack Obama in 1983.

Root believes that America is in trouble and hopes to change that if elected.

Why Nurse Recruiters Serve An Important Role In The Medical Community

By Karen P Williams

Lets face it, nursing is in VERY high demand these days, and although there are many nurse recruiters out there who are actively trying to get the best nurses to the hospitals who are in need of them, something should be taken into consideration: the importance of them specifically in the medical community.

The recruiters dont just recruit for money, for the most part. Most will tell you that he or she has a passion for staffing hospitals and medical centers. Since there is and has traditionally been such a high-demand for nurses, this means a lot of personal fulfillment; not just for those who recruit, but for those who are hired as well as those who do the hiring: not to mention, the patients they all serve, ultimately.

One of the biggest challenges that recruiters face has to do with the fact that there are an over-abundance of nurses who are and will become available; this is a highly competitive business, the world of nursing. There are ways to entice individuals to certain hospitals, and have been traditionally used to do so. Many nurses who are already in positions will, at times, see what other hospitals have to offer. Nursing itself is a very demanding job, with sometimes the worst hours, long shifts, and other such worries.

The recruiters know how demanding this job is, however. It is their job to make it sound as enticing as is possible. One of the angles used to entice nurses to open positions, is to find out what the nurse likes about his or her current job. Once the dislikes are found out, a recruiter can work from there, as well as improving the good points, hopefully. Nurses ultimately know what will or will not work for them, however.

One thing that nurse recruiters should never do, is promise a nursing candidate something that is not deliverable. How disappointing it can be for a nurse to obtain another position, only to find that he or she will not get something promised, never mind that other things might have been blown up, way out of proportion! This is a good reason why many nurses are hesitant to even work with a recruiter in the first place, although typically hospitals do not want to work with individuals; the recruiters usually perform a screening on each one, which is highly desired by hospitals for insurance purposes.

If you are a nurse, please bear in mind that there are many recruiters out there who are dedicated toward getting you the nursing job of your dreams, if you are currently disgruntled with the job you have. While thinking about going through a recruiter, dont be afraid to ask what his or her history is and verify the information you are given. If you are a recruiter, remember that nurses are your clients just as much as the hospital is. Treat them both with respect and dignity, and your commissions will be not only forthcoming, but in abundance as well.

Von D from “LA Ink” TV series sets world record for tattooing

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Realising how visual a medium tattooing is, tattoo artist Kat Von D of TV series LA Ink set a world record while raising funds to fight childhood blindness. In 24 hours, Von D tattooed 400 people with an “LA” logo, in her West Hollywood, California tattoo shop.

The December event at High Voltage Tattoo drew 1000 people in line, although only 400 could get the image emblazoned on them, for a $20 donation. Most learned of the event through her MySpace profile. In all, the funds raised will help 32,000 children’s eyesight, through Vitamin Angels.

Vitamin Angels is the only organization in the world solely dedicated to eradicating vitamin A definciency among children, with the goal of warding off youth blindness by 2020. The year 2020 is chosen because perfect vision is described as “20/20“.

First in line at the event was Jose Flores, who had camped out in front of the store since 7:15 the previous evening. Doors didn’t open until 10 am, and Flores didn’t get the tattoo until Von D was done with her friends and family, including internet celebrity Jeffree Star.

A Guinness World Records official was scheduled to attend, but was caught in a snow storm.

Katherine Von Drachenberg told the Los Angeles Times that, as a teenager, she “be at the mall and parents would grab their kids and be like, ‘Honey!’ It was like that scene in Pretty Woman, where the women on Rodeo Drive think Julia Roberts is going to shoplift. Now people just come up to me more out of curiosity — everyone from grandmas to soccer moms.”

The record setting event was filmed for LA Ink, a series that airs Tuesday nights on TLC in the United States. The series is a spin-off of Miami Ink, a series featuring Von D’s previous place of employ, before she set off on her own.

The series’ second season started last night, however that particular episode will air March 4.

Former Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian detained

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Former Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has been detained on charges of money laundering, embezzling government funds, taking bribes and forging documents. Television coverage showed him shouting “political persecution” while being led away in handcuffs.

“The KMT and the Chinese Communist Party see me as their number one prisoner as I am the biggest stone blocking their way to reunification,” Chen said according to reports.

However, court proceedings were halted so that he could be taken to hospital, due to an injury sustained after he was detained. He was discharged when doctors found that his injuries were minor, and Chen returned to court the following morning.

Lai Ching-teh, an opposition leader, said, “The former president told the judges that he was pushed from behind while being escorted out of the prosecutors’ office, and demanded that he be sent to the National Taiwan University Hospital to examine his injuries.”

“This political manipulation is aimed at destroying the DPP and insulting a former leader by handcuffing him. We assure the public that the DPP will not be defeated,” said Lee Chun-yee, a legislator from Chen’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Chen has publicly admitted that his wife wired tens of millions of dollars oversea, but denies any wrongdoing. He has also admitted to getting government money by submitting false receipts, though he claims that the purpose of this was only to fund “secret diplomatic missions” and not benefit himself.

Chen is a lawyer by profession and served as the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from May 20, 2000 through May 20, 2008.

Chen, his wife, son, daughter-in-law and brother-in-law have been named as defendants in a separate money laundering case.
